History of Haile's Funeral Home...

Our History

Richard H. Haile, Sr co-founded Champion and Haile's Funeral Home in 1923.  Mr. Haile, a former grocer, farmer, and public servant, saw the need for a new funeral establishment in Camden, SC.  In 1929, R.H. Haile purchased Champion's interest in the funeral home and the business was known as Haile's Funeral Home.  He operated the business until his death when his son, R.H. Haile, Jr, took ownership and operation of the funeral home.  R.H. Haile, Jr made several changes over the years.  He consolidated the mortuary operations on Broad St and moved the business to a new, modern facility on the corner of Church and Rutledge Strrets.  He also opened a branch facility in Bethune, SC.  R.H. Haile, Jr died Christmas day, 1976 leaving his wife, Bessie P. Haile and his daughter, Sylvia L. Haile- Nelson to run the business.  Mrs. B.P. Haile and her daughter, Sylvia, decided to changed the color of the fleet from black to black over silver.  In the early nineties, two of Sylvia's four sons, Richard and Ivan, joined the firm in management.  In 1996, Ivan F. Nelson became Business Manager and his brother Rick became the firms Manager, Senior Director and Embalmer.  Over the past eighty seven years, we have worked hard to serve the community in excellence and look forward to serving you for years to come.
